Scotland Visit 2010
Starting Thursday 27th May 2010
We are planning our first Club tour to Scotland hosted by our Scottish Snippets man - Jim Grant. The date will be from Thursday 27th May 2010 with two options of either a long weekend or continuing on for a full week-long tour up into the Scottish Highlands.
........................................................................................................................................................................
The first stopover point will be Grangemouth or Falkirk which is about 330 miles from Paul Matty Sportscars in Bromsgrove.
From then on the itinerary will include some of Scotland's fantastic West Coast scenery driving on traffic-free and challenging roads.
There are to be many opportunities to enjoy fine food, stop for regular tea and coffee breaks, see stunning countryside and enjoy the complete experience of driving in Scotland.
Visits will include the famous lochs and castles, David Coulthard, Jimmy Clark and Bo'ness car museums, along with a visit to Knockhill Race Circuit.
The full itinerary and details will be listed soon, so please reserve your place by contacting Chris Mayhew (events organiser) as soon as possible at christophermayhew@btinternet.com

Nice one Chris ... look forward to the details.CAM wrote:Dear All,
I am planning to travel up on the Thursday arriving late afternoon with the idea of a welcome dinner Thursday night. I will only be up for the long weekend and intend to drive south on Monday and back to work on Tuesday.
We chose this time because of the school holidays, but I do appreciate the hotels/B&B's will be busier/dearer.
Jim Grant is working on the final route plus accomodation, which I hope to post early/middle of Jan 2010. We then all need to book up pronto to secure the rooms.
Best wishes & a very Happy New Year.

Re: Scotland Visit 2010
2010 has started at a pace and despite the snow we are busy tweaking and planning the LDC events for the year.
Why not join us for this exciting tour of Scotland at the end of May. You can do a long weekend or the extended west coast tour for a week.
This promises to be a great oportunity to stretch the legs of your Lotus and visit some spectacular places. Our long term LDC man - Jim Grant (Scottish Snippets in Chicane) is busy working on the itinery.
We should have details of hotels and full route etc very soon so if you are looking for a great touring holiday then book your place with Chris Mayhew a.s.a.p.
Cheers, Tim.

Re: Scotland Visit 2010
The Ballachulish is a nice hotel, we spent 2 night there last Novenber on our way back from the highlands. Their sister hotel has lesure facilitiys and is about 5 mins drive away. You can use them all free of charge as a guest. The only down side is they have no real beer and the their collection of malts is a bit small, but the food was very good. I suggest you make the old library room an LDC room, it has a fire and sofas so is a good place to plan the next days drive outs !!!
We also make use of the falkirk travelodge when we go up. It is basic, but the car park is reasonable it is good value for money, never had any problems there. Don't forget to go to the wheel, worth a trip as a good bit of civil engineering.
We would have gone on this trip except for the fact we are going up to Nethybridge (highlands) in March. I will be interested in the groups experiances of Scotland and if it should be repeated in furture years. The hotel we use in Nethybridge is used by many a motoring club as a base to drive the highland roads. The hotel is very old but you can get some 4 night dinner B & B packages for £120 a head so it is exceptional value for money. So maybe there would be interest for this one year ? I find the roads in Scotland just get better and better the further North you go, the A939 is one of my favourits.
Go enjoy !!

Final Hotel
Hi All
Only 5 weeks to go ..... the final hotel has now been decided it is the Premier Inn, Leith for the night of Thursday 3rd June. Close to the Brittania and Edinburgh, and it will be celebrations all round as it is our wedding anniversary that day.
Please could all of those who are going to the whole trip please let me have your contact numbers so that mobile phone numbers can be exchanged. I have had to release the rooms that had been provisionally booked at both Inverness and Pitlochry to avoid charges to my credit card, however, the hotels assure me that if there are any late comers they still have rooms available. Just make sure that you tell them that you are part of the group.
Myself, Richard, Gill and Martin, Chris and Tash intend to start early on Thursday 27th May, and if anyone else would like to join us there will be a coffee break meeting at Keele Services on the M6 at 7-7:30am. We want to get a head start so that hopefully we will be able to reach Falkirk with enough time to see the 'Wheel'. We have provisionally thought the Tebay Services would be the next meeting point at around10-11am for a late breakfast/early lunch. Again if anyone is thinking of joining us please could you let me know.
