We were completely taken in by the looks of the Mazda MX-5 Superlight concept. No roof, no windshield, the lowered stance, the deep front end with large air intakes. Mazda managed to make one of our favorite production cars lighter and better looking.

But wait, we’ve seen this before. We thought back to the 1991 Frankfurt show and remembered the Lotus M200 concept, a lowered, roofless, Lotus Elan with revised front-end styling that Lotus showed off just before it pulled the plug on the Elan M100. Just as the original Miata was inspired by the original Lotus Elan, it seems its latest concept car may have been inspired by another Lotus idea.
