Lotus Elan S4 DHC SE in Silver with black interior.

Subject at great expense to a total restoration and modification over a period between 1998-2001 to produce a car that was not only capable of being an excellent road car but also capable of taking a class win and Prescott Hill climb in 2007! (the final timings sheet is with the car along with the cars scrutineering tags on the roll cage )
The car itself is a 1971 S4 DHC SE fitted with a full Spyder chassis and suspension system and also the Spyder MSA Approved integral roll cage with built in side protection.
The engine also had a total rebuild and modification costing sum £5000 at renowned specialist JS Motorsport. This included the removal of the Stromberg head to a fully modified gas flowed big valved and ported head with JS 42 Spec Cams, lightweight cam followers along with twin weber 40 conversion and alloy catch tank to name just some of the work.
All of the above along with other work carried over the years is documented in a massive history file.
The power out of this car is very prestigious making it without doubt one of the fastest road legal Elans

Overall condition:

Coachwork:

The overall condition of the shell is excellent with wonderful paint finish and likewise the external furniture bumpers chrome work etc.

Chassis:
As mentioned above the car is fitted with the superb spyder chassis, suspension upright integral roll cage components which are in excellent condition.

Engine.

As mentioned in the write up the engine unit has been built for fast road/competition use and consequently is more hard edged than your standard unit but this does not mean that this is some highly strung racing engine; it is a model of good behavior!
The car is fitted with QED ignition system and starts first time every time with great oil pressure and no overheating problems, like most competition derived engine the valve gear is designed to allow a little oil into the upper chambers to lubricate the upper cylinders so when cold after standing you get a puff of smoke on initial start this disappears after that.

Gearbox:
The box is superb with super fast change and no synchromesh issues.

Final Drive:
No issues with the differential no wind up etc,

Interior:
The car interior is wonderful,the seat have no rips and are very supportive the door cards floor covering likewise,the Burr walnut dash/door inserts wonderful.

Hood:
The hood is a very recent replacement so is in excellent condition.

Eletrical:
All the electrical systems/gauges/lighting at the time of writing are working as per specification

Exhaust:
The car is fitted with a fully stainless steel bespoke performance system and tuned extractor manifold.

Wheels/Tyres:
Like the Spyder components the wheels where refurbished by them and in superb condition.
The tyres are the superb Avon CR500 which is about as close to a racing tyre you can use on the road! Giving superb grip and communication.

Saftey:
The car is fitted with the excellent integrated Spyder rollcage system that allows the side cage protection to run inside the sills not only does it give the car an excellent safety cell but also enhances the rigidity of the chassis.
Also the car is fitted on the drivers side with a Willans three point Harness

One the road:

The power to weight ratio’s of this car make for one awesome driving machine combining the lightening quick steering,turn in and cornering ability only enhance an already fabled reputation! .
But what is also excellent is the ride comfort,once you have lowered yourself into the cabin it is a very comfortable environment .

Overall conclusion:
This particular car is a genuine car which can be used and enjoyed straight away.

Lotus Elan DHC's do not come up for sale very often due to the high esteem their owners hold them in, so to find one for sale that has this sort of specification and ability is very rare indeed!

from this distance it looks like a top car & I would expect it to be about 15k. Maybe more
Eligibility for Competition is dodgy though, I don't think that the Spyder rear Suspension is permitted except for the "Matty Lotus Championship".

"At the time of writing", how typically Lotus & how honest can you get
Suggests to me that the Vendors description can be considered reliable.
