M100 windscreen cracked
Over the winter my windscreen has cracked starting at the internal mirror which has now dropped off and is hanging on the wires. Anyone know where i can get a replacement windscreen and the costs.
The elan is 1990 SE.

Re: M100 windscreen cracked
Hi David,
If you have comprehensive insurance, windscreen cover would normally be included in the policy as long as you use their "approved" supplier, Autoglass that sort of thing. I suggest you check your insurance first. you will normally have an excess to pay of around £60 but that's better then the cost of the full screen price.

Don't get it done by Autoglass etc - go to a Lotus specialist who will know how to deal with the carriers and seals.

Thanks for the advice
a)I have checked my Insurance and I am covered but I will need to check if it is counted as a claim. I need to keep claim free if possible.
b)Thanks for advice on where to go . I will start by talking to SGT at Taplow.
On another issue I am still looking to find a Lotus Elan M100 hardtop so that I can use it when it rains throughout the winter without a towel on my lap. Anyone know if any are for sale?

Re: M100 windscreen cracked
Hi David
Windscreen claims do NOT count against your no claims bonus so you should be ok with that. Insurers normally have a few approved suppliers so ask them who you can use and choose from them. If you do not use there approved repairer then you would have to pay the whole bill yourself and then claim back. However, if you do not use their approved repairer then you might not be able to claim back the whole amount as this then can be limited.
In terms of seals and carriers make sure the condition is good before you have it repaired and take photos of seals etc if you are worried about damage, that said most of the apporoved repairers should be ok and the repair work is guaranteed by the insurers so that is why they are "approved" in the first place. Any problems should be sorted out as as long as you tell the insurers as soon as there is a problem they can put a stop on payment.
