Dear Forum readers, I am replacing the clutch on my '74 Elan +2 and I've noticed the flywheel starter ring is badly chewed up. I suspect the starter motor might be a rogue item and although I've consulted the Workshop Manual and checked that it is the rightful Lucas model number, etc., I am still in some doubt as to whether the starter pinion has the correct number of teeth. Mine has 10 teeth and I would invite help so as to confirm whether this is the correct spigot (10-tooth) for the engine. My thanks in anticipation, Gambit.

Hello and welcome gambit.

If you haven't already it may be worth giving SJ Sportscars or Paul Matty's a ring as they are more than likely to know the answer or point you in the right direction at least. Hopefully someone on here will also have an opinion, unfortunately it's not my strong point Very Happy

SJ list a starter motor pinion (SJ036M0012), they should at least me able to tell you the answer.
Here's the link: Starter Motor Pinion SJ036M0012
